At the beginning of the 19th century, a new development in human mobility began with the invention of the wheel, which was invented by Baron von Drais in Germany in 1817.
Movement on wheels for individual transportation. An early center of this development was London. Here, under the inventive genius of Charles Birch, tricycles were created especially for women.
This book aims to show the great popularity of the bicycle even in this early period and takes a panoramic view of the goings-on in London in 1819. Birch demonstrates his invention to the royal couple, a vicar swears by his hobby horse and a princess who is completely infatuated with her tricycle.
Many different types, styles and ages of cycles are described and illustrated, including Lady's Hobby Horse, Velocimanipede, Pilentum, tricycle, velocipede, Ladys Accelerator and many more.
All this and much more is described in this volume by the author duo Jürg Zaugg and Nicola Zaugg, jun. A packed book with entertaining and exciting stories on 162 pages.
Numerous historical illustrations and reproductions of old photographs.
