West Norwood Cemetery

Price: £0.60

Contemporary woodcut showing the tomb of the prizefighter Thomas WINTER (Tom Spring) (d. 1851) (square 61). Spring was only defeated once in his short career (1817-24) and retired whilst the acknowledged Champion. The carving of the Lion lying down with the Lamb is especially poignant. A feature of the cemetery for many years, this Cotswold stone monument has been eroded and vandalised almost beyond repair.
