Grey granite sarcophagus (Grade II listed) of Charles Haddon (d. 1892) and Susannah (d. 1903) SPURGEON (square 38). Baptist minister, founder of the Metropolitan Tabernacle, Elephant & Castle, 1861, and the greatest orator of his generation. A prolific author, his sermons were published weekly, 1865-1916. His funeral probably attracted more mourners than any other in the history of the cemetery.
